BEASISWA DARI PEMERINTAH ITALIA

TAHUN AKADEMIS 2009/2010

Setiap calon hanya dapat memilih salah satu Universitas dan Sekolah Tinggi yang diakui oleh Pemerintah Italia. Tidak boleh memilih Universitas asing, Sekolah Tinggi Asing, dan Pusat-pusat Studi swasta yang tidak diakui oleh Pemerintah Italia.

I. JENIS BEASISWA

a. Kursus bahasa jangka pendek

b. Program Sarjana :

- Karena sesuai dengan U.U. 249/99 penerimaan mahasiswa di program sarjana akan melalui proses saringan, disarankan agar pemohon mendaftarkan diri pada program lainnya sebagai pilihan alternatif, agar apabila tidak diterima pada satu program, kesempatan untuk mempertahankan beasiswanya tidak akan hilang.

c. Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik:

- Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik (akademi dan konservatori) , Sekolah Tinggi Restorasi dan Sekolah Tinggi Sinematografi.

d. Pasca Sarjana:

- Program untuk mendapatkan gelar Master tingkat I dan II (dengan jangka waktu minimum satu tahun akademik).

- Para calon penerima beasiswa untuk gelar Master akan diberitahukan mengenai biaya studi dan kemungkinan bahwa program tersebut mengharuskan mahasiswanya untuk mengikuti perkuliahan di institusi akademik yang berada di luar Italia.

e. Program S3:

- Kriteria penerimaan pada program tersebut ditentukan oleh masing-masing Universitas. Disarankan menghubungi masing-masing institusi atau mencari informasi pada situs-situs internet terkait.

f. Penelitian:

- Harus mendaftarkan diri dan mengikuti program sarjana dan/atau program pasca sarjana.

g. Spesialisasi:

- Dalam kategori kursus spesialisasi tidak termasuk jurusan kedokteran (UU 08.08.1991 n.257).

h. Kursus Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Italia untuk Dosen Bahasa Italia

- Kursus Bahasa dan Budaya Italia diperuntukan bagi dosen Indonesia yang mengajar bahasa Italia. Beasiswa untuk kursus mengenai pembelajaran dan pengajaran bahasa Italia dilaksanakan di Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Siena dan Roma Tre atau pada institusi-institusi lain yang berhak mengeluarkan sertifikat pengajaran bahasa Italia sebagai bahasa asing.

NB.

Calon penerima beasiswa diharuskan untuk memiliki surat penerimaan dari dosen atau institusi yang dipilih.

Para calon penerima beasiswa program Sarjana dan Pasca Sarjana - dimana ruang lingkup studinya mewajibkan untuk mengikuti satu bagian dari program yang dilaksanakan di tempat yang berbeda dari institusi akademik ilmu pengetahuan utama yang menerima para calon beasiswa-akan diminta agar merinci hal tersebut pada saat pendaftaran supaya Direksi Jenderal dapat mempersiapkan dalam waktu yang sesuai pengiriman perintah pembayaran di setiap loket Bendahara Provinsi yang ada di setiap wilayah.

Periode beasiswa bervariasi antara 3, 6, 9 dan 12 bulan. Periode beasiswa adalah tahun akademik 2009-2010 (1/10/2009—30/10/2010). Pembayaran beasiswa akan berlaku untuk periode Januari—September 2010. Sedangkan untuk program Master/S3 dapat diperpanjang sampai 31 Maret 2011.

II. PERSYARATAN

Syarat-syarat utama bagi calon penerima beasiswa adalah sebagai berikut:

1) Kemampuan berbahasa Italia

Kemampuan berbahasa Italia merupakan syarat utama yang harus dipenuhi oleh para calon melalui wawancara di Institut Kebudayaan Italia atau menunjukkan Sertifikat Bahasa Italia. Syarat tersebut tidak berlaku untuk program kursus bahasa Italia.

2) Ijazah

Calon penerima beasiswa harus memiliki ijazah sesuai dengan yang diminta untuk pendaftaran pada institusi akademik yang dipilih. Beberapa ketentuan mengenai hal tersebut:

- Ijazah harus diterjemahkan kedalam bahasa Italia dan disahkan oleh perwakilan Pemerintah Italia di negara tempat studi dilakukan.

- Ijazah harus disertai surat pernyataan oleh Kedutaan Besar Italia tentang nilai ijazah di negara tempat studi dilakukan.

- Untuk pendaftaran pada Program Sarjana di Universitas- universitas di Italia, calon penerima beasiswa harus memiliki Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum atau setara, yang di negaranya dianggap sah untuk memasuki tingkat Universitas.

- Untuk pendaftaran pada Program Spesialisasi, Pasca Sarjana dan Program Master tingkat I dan II di Universitas Italia dibutuhkan ijazah sarjana yang setara dengan ijazah Italia guna melakukan pendaftaran dan dokumen lainnya yang akan ditetapkan oleh institusi akademik yang dipilih oleh calon penerima beasiswa.

- Untuk menjadi mahasiswa pada Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik dibutuhkan sertifikat/ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum (SMU) atau setara, untuk dapat diterima pada akademi kesenian atau konservatorium.

- Untuk mengikuti kursus Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Italia dibutuhkan ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum (SMU).

3) Batas Usia

Batas usia untuk penerima beasiswa adalah 35 tahun. Batas usia tersebut tidak berlaku untuk dosen bahasa Italia, dengan syarat dosen tersebut melakukan kegiatan mengajar bahasa Italia. Pengecualian untuk Sekolah Tinggi Sinematografi yang menuntut batas usia yang tidak melebihi 27 tahun.

Calon penerima beasiswa minimal harus berumur 18 tahun.

4) Pengajuan permohonan

- Dua surat rekomendasi dari otoritas akademik

- Surat Penerimaan dari universitas yang dituju (kecuali untuk program bahasa)

Permohonan beasiswa yang tidak memenuhi persyaratan di atas dianggap gagal

The University of Siena invites applications for the Graduate Program in
Economics. The University and the city offer a unique environment for
study and research in Europe.

Scholarship.

A maximum of 16 students will be admitted. The 8 most qualified
candidates will be awarded a four-year scholarship of about €10,500
($16,500) per year, after tax, for a total of about $42,000 ($67,000),
plus tuition remission. A limited number of students can take advantage
of lodging offered by the University of Siena in the Post-Graduate
College “S. Chiara” (http://www.unisi.it/santachiara/homeEn.html) sited
in the historical centre of Siena.

The Graduate Program.

The goal of the program is to train professional economists. Former
students hold positions as economists in the academia, in consulting
businesses, and in national and internationals economic institutions,
such as central banks and regulators.

The first two years of the Program are devoted to full-time courses. All
of these are taught in English, the official language of the Program.
After fundamental training in Mathematics, Microeconomics,
Macroeconomics and Econometrics, a full menu of specialized courses is
offered. Students are exposed to different theoretical and
methodological points of view, in order to be able to explore the
frontier of economics in an original way. Students are also required to
participate in research activities, such as economics seminars and
workshops. Admission to the second year is conditioned on the results of
all first year final exams. Starting from the second year, students will
develop their own research, under the supervision of a faculty member.
While working at their dissertation, students are encouraged to
undertake periods of research in foreign academic institutions. In this
case the scholarship is increased by 50%. The doctorate is awarded after
discussion of an original piece of scientific work (which can be written

Application process.

Applicants must hold, or obtain by September 30 2009, an Italian “laurea
specialistica” or a “4-years laurea” or equivalent 4-5 years foreign
degree. There are no limitations on the nationality of candidates.

2. Academic transcripts. These must contain a full list of courses taken

3. Two letters of reference, in sealed envelopes. These must assess the
student’s aptitudes towards research, competence, scientific potential
and maturity, in comparative terms.

4. A research statement, not exceeding 1000 words.

5. (OPTIONAL) A short scientific essay, not longer than 5000 words,
resulting from independent research by the candidate.

Selection of Students.

The selection of candidates will be based on an evaluation of their
aptitude and competence to research. To this purpose, the examination
commission might ask some of the candidates to sit for a written exam
and an interview, to be held in Siena in the late-Spring or early-Summer
of 2009; in this case, the candidates will be notified by email a couple
of weeks before (however, the University cannot be held responsible for
failed communications due to the candidate supplying late or incorrect
information regarding his/her address). The exams will be in Italian or
in English. The University reserves the right to exclude from the
selection process, at any time, candidates who do not meet the admission

Beasiswa S3 Italia: 6 PhD Positions in Agrobiodiversity, SS Sant'Anna, Pisa, Italy

The PhD Programme in Agrobiodiversity is aimed at the enhancement of human resource capacities in the use and management of genetic variation in agricultural and natural systems, in order to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems and the conservation of genetic resources for the well-being of present and future generations.

The Programme is structured in the following curricula:
Curriculum A - Plant genetic resources: teaching and research activities take place in ENEA Research Center at "La Casaccia", a few kilometres from Rome;
Curriculum B - Functional biodiversity in agroecosystems : teaching and research activities take place in Pisa, at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.

Admission Requirements
- possession of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree or equivalent title in Experimental Sciences, at an Italian or foreign university and ssession of a Degree awarded after, at least, a four-year course in Experimental Sciences;
- to be younger than 35 years (date of birth after 15 July 1974), older than 35 may be exceptionally admitted by the Admission Committee.

Positions and grants
6 positions with 6 fellowships (the net amount is € 12.500, all inclusive):
the first 4 (four) eligible candidates of Curriculum A and the first 2 (two) eligible candidates of Curriculum B will be awarded a scholarship. The School may also admit eligible candidates up to a maximum number of 2 positions.

Ph.D. and Master Scholarships in German Studies at Newcastle University

For the coming academic session (2009-10), the School of Modern Languages at
Newcastle University invites applications for Masters and Ph.D. awards. A variety of
bursaries are available for UK, EU and overseas candidates. In addition to AHRC
funding and Newcastle Faculty funding, the School is offering 8 bursaries (6 at
Masters level and 2 at PhD level). One 3-year Ph.D. studentship offered by the
School is reserved exclusively for German Studies, and all the general funding
opportunities of the School of Modern Languages are also open to candidates
wishing to pursue German Studies. This can be either in one of the taught M.A.
programmes or in a research degree (M.Litt. or Ph.D.).

The following M.A.-programmes can be studied with a focus on German:

Beasiswa S2 UK : Masters Studentships in the History of Medicine

The School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University is pleased to advertise between 4 and 6 Masters Studentship Awards for postgraduate study in Newcastle’s Wellcome Trust recognised MA programme in the History of Medicine during the academic year 2009-10. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2009.

The stipends for these awards will be set as follows: Two studentships will be awarded at either £15,000 (including home/EU fees) for full-time home/EU students, or £20,000 (including international fees) for full-time non-EU students of outstanding merit; the other studentships will be awarded at either £5,000 (including home/EU-fees) for meritorious full-time home/EU students, or £10,000 (including international fees) for non-EU students. Part time studentships will be awarded to meritorious applicants at c. half the above rate per annum.

The studentships are funded by the Northern Centre for the History of Medicine and will be available as of September 2009. The Northern Centre is a partnership between the Universities of Newcastle and Durham, and is supported by the Wellcome Trust. Successful applicants will join the postgraduate community based at the School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University. Postgraduate teaching and research supervision in the History of Medicine at Newcastle is delivered by scholars with established international reputations in the field.

Eligibility: Applications for the studentship are invited from highly motivated
graduates from various backgrounds including the Humanities and Social Sciences (e.g. History, Classics, Philosophy, Literature, Religious Studies, Archaeology, Psychology, Sciences, Sociology etc.). Applicants require a good (or predicted) undergraduate degree result (1st or high 2:1) in such a subject. Candidates with a medical background are also strongly encouraged to apply, and the studentship is open to current stage 4 Newcastle medical students who have opted to take the MA in the History of Medicine as an intercalated degree after stage 4 MBBS. The Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) is a newly established interdisciplinary institution at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen funded by the German Excellence Initiative program.
Highly motivated and enthusiastic applicants are invited for PhD research positions in CIN to explore the molecular and cellular processes underlying senses of touch and pain.

Although mechanosensation might be the most ancient of our five senses, touch and mechanical pain remain the least understood of the vertebrate sensory transduction events both at cellular and molecular level. In order to investigate the molecular and cellular nature of mechanosensation, electrophysiology techniques, calcium imaging, cell culture techniques and immunofluorescence staining, confocal laser scanning microscopy, electron microscopy and standard techniques of molecular cell biology will be employed.

Applicants are expected to be enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary and challenging research area, and should be highly motivated. In addition, applicants with a background in neuroscience or biophysics are highly encouraged to apply.

The Erasmus Mundus External Window programme for Regional Asia, called
'EMMA', provides funding opportunities for students, researchers and

Introduction: The Arete Initiative at the University of Chicago is

of Virtues. This is a multidisciplinary research initiative that seeks

within the humanities and the sciences. We support highly original,
scholarly projects that demonstrate promise of a distinctive
contribution to virtue research and have the potential to begin a new
field of interdisciplinary study.

Eligibility: The selection criteria by which the Council will evaluate
proposals and select the winners would focus on the ability of the
proposal to generate ground-breaking results in the study of virtues.
To ascertain the likely success of the researcher, they will also be
expected to consider the scholar's record of achievement, training
history, and the promise of long-term impact.

Amount Awarded: two-year research grants will be awarded ranging from
$50,000 to $300,000.

The Human Frontier Science Program- Research Grants

Introduction: The Human Frontier Science Program supports
international collaborations in basic life science research with
emphasis placed on novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches
to fundamental investigations. Applications are invited for grants to
support new approaches to understanding complex mechanisms of living
organisms. Preliminary results are not required but applicants are
expected to develop new lines of research distinct from their ongoing
research.

There are two types of grants: New Investigators' Grants are for teams
of scientists who are all within five years of establishing an
independent laboratory and within ten years of obtaining their PhDs.
Program Grants are for teams of scientists at all stages of their
careers, however the participation of younger scientists is especially
encouraged.

Eligibility: The principal applicant must be located in one of the
member countries (includes Australia) but co-investigators can be
located in any country.

Amount Awarded: Grants provide 3 years support for 2 – 4 member teams.
Awards are dependent on team size but can be up to US$450K per annum.

problems

The Seminar for Applied Mathematics of ETH Zuerich
(http://www.sam.math.ethz.ch/)offers a full PhD position in the
framework of a project on "Sparse Tensor Approximation Methods for
High-Dimensional Transport Problems".

Sparse tensor product approximations also known as sparse grids have
emerged as a powerful tool for the numerical treatment of
high-dimensional problems in areas as diverse as quantitative finance,
deterministic methods for stochastic PDEs, and data mining. The area
is still rapidly evolving and offers fascinating research
opportunities. Researchers at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics of
ETH Zuerich are among the leaders in the field.

In this project sparse tensor product approximation is to be explored
as a novel approach to kinetic equations, see
http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jcp.2008. 02.025 . The PhD project will
have a focus on efficient algorithms and data structures, which is
an exciting challenge in its own right. The PhD work will be jointly
supervised by Prof. C. Schwab and Prof. R. Hiptmair.

The positions is temporary and limited to 3-4 years after a three
month period of probation. The holder will be regular ETH research
staff and receive a gross salary of roughly 66,000 Swiss Francs (about
EUR 41.000, USD 55.000). The positions will involve teaching of
tutorial lectures, supervision of undergraduate students, and grading
of examinations equivalent to a total workload of about 10h/week.

Candidates must have a master or diploma degree in mathematics, a
(computational) engineering discipline, or in (computational) science.
Their education record should indicate strong interest and exceptional
skills in computer simulation as well as familiarity with important
numerical methods for the approximate solution partial differential
equations (finite elements, finite volumes, etc.). Experience with
object oriented programming in C++ is essential.

Knowledge of German is not required, but the candidates must possess
good communication skills and should be fluent in English, both oral
and in writing.

Government of India, through the General Cultural Scholarship Scheme (GCSS)
administered by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), has

The University of Massachusetts is offering a limited number of graduate

Giessen University's International Graduate Centre for the Study of
Culture
(GCSC), funded by the German federal government's Excellence
Initiative, offers
a three-year structured PhD-programme in the study of culture. With

excellent research environment, a doctoral programme which is
tailored to the
needs of PhD students and the intensive personal support it provides,
the
Graduate Centre offers postgraduate students optimum conditions for
their
PhD-projects and a custom-made preparation for the time thereafter,

From 01st October 2009, the GCSC offers up to 9 PhD scholarships.

PhD scholarships include a monthly stipend of approximately 1.000
Euros and are
offered for one year with the possibility of two extensions, each of

Scholarships commence on October 1st, 2009.

Acceptance of a scholarship requires participation in the study
programme and
the wide-ranging events offered by the GCSC, as well as active
involvement in at

students at Justus Liebig University. There are no tuition fees for
doctoral
students at JLU, except for an enrollment fee of approximately 200
Euros per
semester. Scholarship holders are expected to take up residency in or
near Giessen.

The GCSC encourages applications from graduate students who have or
expect to
obtain a first or upper second class honours MA -degree (or
equivalent) in one
of the GCSC's academic subjects* or in the arts/humanities, cultural
studies, or
social sciences. Fluency in either English or German is required.

The main selection criteria are the candidates' academic
qualification, the
academic quality of the research proposal and the suitability of the
project for
the GCSC's research programme. Short-listed candidates will be
invited to a
30-minute interview; telephone interviews can be arranged for
candidates from
overseas.

The New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) scheme offers the
opportunity to people from selected developing countries to undertake
development- related studies in New Zealand.
This may include study related to education, health, rural
livelihoods, governance, human rights, or economic development,
depending on the human resource development training needs of the home
government.

New Zealand -Development Scholarships are offered for full-time,
tertiary level study at participating New Zealand education
institutions.
The NZDS scheme has two categories:
1-New Zealand Development Scholarships – Public category (NZDS-Public)
The NZDS-Public scholarships scheme is a bilateral scheme available to
individuals from selected partner countries in Southeast Asia and the

The Research Doctorate is the highest academic title that can be

With today's digital signal processing capabilities, it becomes possible to optimize the
performance parameters of a navigation system for a particular set of intended
applications. The Netherlands Defense Academy and the Delft University of Technology are
providing an opportunity of a Ph.D. research assistantship to explore opportunities in the
field of Terrain Reference Navigation (TRN) by using digital signal processing techniques
that were originally developed for the acquisition and tracking of GPS signals.

The goal of the research is to contribute to the creation of a design framework which can
be used to match technology and processing concepts to a particular set of navigation
system performance requirements. The focus lies on exploring the potential of various
digital signal processing concepts for matching a set of distance measurements with a
stored database of the environment.

The candidate should hold a Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer science,
applied mathematics or any other relevant study with substantial knowledge on data
processing. Research will be conducted both at the Netherlands Defense Academy and at

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

UTS: Engineering offers scholarships to international students for its masters by coursework programs. Each scholarship will be awarded based solely on academic results achieved by the applicant in their undergraduate degree.

The next intake will be for Autumn Semester 2009. Applications close 8 December 2008.

The scholarships are available for the following courses:

Eligibility to apply:
You must:

Have completed or expect to complete an undergraduate degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree with an overall mark of 65% and no fails;
Fulfil all academic requirements for the degree (including English language requirements)
Submit an International Student Postgraduate Application form prior to or at the same time as submitting the Masters Scholarship for Outstanding International Students application form.

Applications for Autumn Semester (February intake) 2009 close 8 December 2008.

Scholarship Details:
The scholarships consist of a total of $2,500 per student. The amount will be paid directly towards student`s tuition fees after the commencement of their studies.

The recent appointment of new lecturers and award of both industrial and research projects has led to a number of PhD scholarships within the Industrial Control Centre. The research involves working with industry as well as collaboration with national and international institutions.

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program provides expenses for
a four-year course of study toward a bachelor's degree for up to
twenty-two exceptionally able Asian students annually from these
countries and regions: the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea,
Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

• Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by January 1,
2009.

• Students are advised to register now for SAT (or ACT) and TOEFL or
IELTS.

• Notification by April 1, 2009.

• Japan notification by March 1, 2009.

Wesleyan is now accepting applications for participation in the
Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program. The chosen applicants
will join 2,800 other Wesleyan undergraduates from throughout the
United States and nearly 50 countries for study with an outstanding
teaching and research faculty in the sciences and mathematics, the
arts, the humanities, and the social and behavioral sciences.

This program is made possible by Wesleyan University and the Freeman
Foundation, which aims to improve understanding and to strengthen
ties between the United States and the countries and regions of the
Pacific Rim.

Wesleyan University is located in Middletown, Connecticut, halfway
between New York and Boston in the historic and colorful New England
region of the northeastern United States. It is a private,
nonsectarian, liberal arts and sciences institution founded in 1831.
A number of early Wesleyan graduates were influential educators and
ministers in Asian countries, and the modern Wesleyan has formal ties
to several prominent universities in Asia. The campus is home to a
diverse population of 2,800 undergraduate students, equally divided
between men and women, approximately 28 percent of whom are of
African, Asian, or Hispanic descent, and nearly 190 students from
foreign countries.

Approximately 200 graduate students, a number of whom are from Asian
countries, are pursuing advanced degrees, principally in the
sciences, mathematics, and music.

Wesleyan provides instruction in 46 major fields of study. Unlike
some university systems abroad, in which students focus on one
academic field, most American universities are based on a curricular
tradition of liberal arts and sciences, in which breadth and depth of
study are deemed equally important. At Wesleyan, the major programs
of study involve one-third to one-half of a student's course work,
with the remaining time devoted to exploration of a variety of fields
through which a student may broaden his or her background and
understanding. More than 900 courses are offered, in which
interdisciplinary pursuits are encouraged and an international
perspective is fundamental.

Wesleyan graduates go on in high numbers to the best graduate and
professional schools in the United States and to successful careers
in engineering, business, law, medicine, education, politics,
international relations, social service, and the arts. The primary
purpose of study at Wesleyan, however, is not to provide vocational
training in a specific area. The objectives of a Wesleyan education
include the development of self-educating men and women who have
mastered a major field, have learned to think critically, are
cognizant of the variety of human experience, and have acquired the
habits of imaginative and disciplined minds.

The liberal arts at Wesleyan are founded on an atmosphere of freedom,
small college traditions, faculty resources, and student diversity.
The University provides the facilities and opportunities of a
research university while retaining the emphasis on teaching and the
intimacy of a small college. The undergraduate student-to-faculty
ratio is 9:1, enabling the faculty to provide direct and particular
attention to undergraduate education. Wesleyan's more than 300
teacher-scholars believe that scholarly research and active teaching
are mutually reinforcing. The University's curriculum is unusually
flexible, and students work closely with a faculty advisor in
planning all programs and majors.
STUDENT LIFE

Many undergraduates cite the University's relatively small size as a
source of satisfaction with campus life. The community is small
enough so that the individual may feel at home, yet large enough to
provide a rich variety of activities and acquaintances.

Life can be very full for undergraduates. Outside the classroom, they
may select from more than 200 different student organizations that
range in interest from theatrical productions to environmental
activism, from the Wesleyan Argus newspaper and the debate club to
Ultimate Frisbee, from the Asians for Community Empowerment to West
African drumming or a chamber music group. The University's state-of-
the-art athletic center encourages students to participate in
athletics, either in one of 27 varsity sports or at the intramural
level. Parties and social gatherings are held at student residences,
at the campus center, at fraternity houses, and at restaurants in
Middletown. Bringing the wider world closer, prominent scholars,
artists, musicians, actors, and dancers come to the campus regularly,
and the weekly campus calendar features a continuous program of
concerts, plays, films, and lectures.
RESIDENTIAL LIFE

All Wesleyan students are guaranteed housing on campus for the full
four years. They may choose among several options for housing and
dining, and more than 90 percent of them live on or within one block
of the campus. First-year students generally live in one of several
residence hall complexes in either a double or single room. After the
first year, Wesleyan offers a variety of housing options, including
apartment complexes, furnished houses, and small rental houses.
Membership in the dining plan is required for all four years, which
allows students to eat in the many on-campus facilities as well as to
buy food at the campus grocery store and cook their own meals. The
Usdan University Center (http://www.wesleyan .edu/masterplan/
univcenter.html) , opened in August 2007, provides a central location
for dining and social activities.
THE FREEMAN FOUNDATION

The first Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars enrolled at Wesleyan in
September of 1995. The Freeman Foundation, sponsor of the Wesleyan
Freeman Asian Scholarship Program, was established in 1994 through
the bequest of Mansfield Freeman, a businessman, benefactor, scholar,
and longtime resident in Asia who was a member of the Wesleyan
University Class of 1916. Mr. Freeman was an insurance executive and
one of the original founders of what is now the American
International Group, Inc. (AIG). The New York–based Freeman
Foundation, which established the Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship
Program in memory of Mansfield Freeman, is administered primarily by
the Freeman family; its charitable efforts are directed mainly toward
bettering relationships and understanding between the United States
and the countries of East Asia. This program's goal is for Freeman
Asian Scholars to become leaders in their home countries.
SCHOLARSHIP FINANCIAL AWARDS

Scholars Each Freeman Scholar will receive a scholarship to cover the
cost of tuition and student fees (called "full tuition scholarship" )
regardless of his or her family's financial situation. Although
costs are not yet established for 2009-2010, in the 2008-2009 school
year tuition and fees total $38,934. Families wishing to apply for
financial aid to assist with the costs associated with room, board,
travel, and books and supplies submit a completed International
Financial Aid Application by February 15. Wesleyan's Financial Aid
Office will determine the family contribution. The family
contribution is comprised of a parent contribution based on the parent
(s) income and assets, as well as a student contribution.

A scholarship applicant who is not requesting financial aid to cover
the costs beyond tuition will need to provide documentation that his
or her family has the financial resources to pay those costs by
submitting the Certification of Finances Form. The form must show
that the family can fund approximately $15,000 per academic year.
(Again, the cost of attendance is not yet set for the 2009-2010
academic year, but the additional budget for new matriculants in the
2008-2009 academic year is $13,301 not including travel; residential
comprehensive fee $10,636; books and miscellaneous $2,665).
FREEMAN SCHOLARS

Applicants for the academic year beginning in late August must have
completed their secondary schooling* (high school) by then and must
be citizens or permanent residents of one of these eleven countries
or regions: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.
Preference will be given to those currently living in one of these
eleven countries or regions and to those who would otherwise be
unable to study in the United States. Individuals with dual U.S.
citizenship or who are permanent U.S. residents are not eligible.
Students who must fulfill a military service requirement may apply in
their final year of school but waiting until the year in which one
can enroll is preferable.

*Students following the British O- and A-level system typically will
be enrolled in their second year of the A-level program at the time
of application. We cannot consider students from Malaysia on the
basis of forecast SPM results; students there should be enrolled in
the second year of the STPM at the time of application. Students
already enrolled in university are not eligible for Wesleyan Freeman
Asian Scholarships. In South Korea, a student may accept a place in a
Korean university for February 2009, pending our scholarship decision.

Admission to Wesleyan and the selection process for Wesleyan Freeman
Asian Scholars is extremely competitive. We plan to award the
scholarship to two students from each of the eleven countries or
regions. Selection criteria include academic achievement;
intellectual curiosity; a high level of discipline and commitment;
strong personal qualities; extracurricular involvement, especially
community service; and English language ability.

It is our preference to enroll students currently studying and
residing in their home countries, but students who are temporarily
living elsewhere may apply. Please note that interviews of finalists
take place in students' home countries or regions.

Freeman Asian Scholars are expected to return to their home countries
upon completion of their degrees. (We understand that some students
may wish to continue their education with graduate studies in the
United States, which would be at their own expense.)

Successful applicants will be notified by April 1, except in Japan,
where they will be notified by March 1. Alternates also will be
chosen in the event that any of those initially selected decide not
to accept the offer. Wesleyan will provide the necessary forms for
obtaining an F-1 student visa to the United States.
REQUIRED TESTING

To qualify, applicants must take the SAT Reasoning Test of the
College Board or the ACT. (Applicants in the People's Republic of
China, where the SAT is not available, are exempt from this
requirement. ) Non-native speakers of English also must take the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the IELTS (International
English Language Testing System) in place of the TOEFL. Students
should receive a score that demonstrates sufficient proficiency in
the English language to function well in a highly demanding academic
environment. A score close to 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or 250 on
the computer-based TOEFL, or a "7" on the IELTS, would be evidence of
adequate English language ability. (A high score – 650 or better – on
the critical reading section of the SAT may also demonstrate the
necessary English language proficiency. In such cases, submitting the
TOEFL or IELTS results is not necessary.) These examinations must be
taken by January 1. All examinations are administered on several
dates, with a registration deadline approximately six weeks before
the exam. Please be sure to list Wesleyan University (undergraduate)
as an official score recipient.

We encourage students to contact the local EducationUSA office near
them for information about registering and taking standardized
entrance examinations such as the SAT and TOEFL, as well as for
additional assistance applying. A comphrensive list of their

APPLICATION

Interested students also must submit a written application that
includes background information, two essays, a secondary (high)
school/junior college transcript, recommendations from two teachers
and one counselor, a peer reference, and results (or predictions if
available) of any standardized national examinations administered
during the secondary school/junior college years. Officials from
Wesleyan and the Freeman Foundation will travel to Asia and conduct
interviews of finalists in their home countries in February or March.
All application materials are to be postmarked or submitted online no
later than January 1. (For students in the Philippines, we recommend
using the online option or mailing your application earlier or using
a courier service.)

There are two different options for filing an application for the
Freeman Scholarship.
1) You may complete the Common Application to Wesleyan online, plus
the required Freeman Scholarship addendum. These forms can be
downloaded, printed, and posted to us, or they can be filed
electronically by January 1.
2) You may complete the paper application packet in place of the
Common Application and Freeman Scholarship Addendum. The paper
application is available from schools, local AIG offices and U.S.
Education Advising Centers.

It is likely that some highly qualified applicants who would
otherwise be admissible to Wesleyan will not be chosen for the highly
selective Freeman Asian Scholarship. No financial aid is available
to such students, but those who do not require financial assistance
to attend are encouraged to apply as "regular" applicants to Wesleyan
University. To be considered as a "regular" (non-aided) admission
candidate in the event that you are not selected as a Freeman
Scholar, please indicate your interest in the place provided:
a) on the bottom of the Form 1 if using the paper Freeman application
packet or,
b) on the Freeman Scholarship Addendum if using the Common
Application with Addendum.

There is no application fee for students applying only for the
Freeman Asian Scholarship but candidates also wishing to be
considered as a "regular" candidate do submit the $55 application
fee. Dual Freeman Asian Scholarship/ "Regular" admission candidates
must submit a Certification of Finances form documenting that the
family has sufficient resources to fund the entire cost of education,
approximately $52,000 each year.

All applicants to Wesleyan are instructed to monitor the receipt of
their application materials by using our web-based WesCheck page.
Using your last name and assigned WesID number, you can view
application materials received as well as outstanding items. It is
important to use WesCheck regularly (after September 15) to be sure
your application is complete.

Israel Dan David Prize Scholarships 2009/2010

The Dan David Prize laureates annually donate twenty scholarships of
US$15,000 each to outstanding doctoral and post-doctoral students of
exceptional promise in the chosen fields.

Ten scholarships are awarded to doctoral and post-doctoral students
at universities throughout the world and ten scholarships at Tel Aviv
University.

The Dan David Prize is granted according to merit, without
discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, or
political affiliation.

A. PERSYARATAN PESERTA

Adapun Persyaratan Pendaftaran untuk Beasiswa Calon Tenaga Penyuluh
Lapangan (TPL) Industri Kecil dan Menengah adalah sebagai berikut :
1. Siswa kelas III SMU/MA/SMK atau yang telah lulus 1 tahun sebelumnya dan
menduduki peringkat 1 s/d 10 di kelasnya.
2. Prestasi Siswa ditunjukkan oleh Raport kelas 1 s/d 3.
3. Mendapat Surat Rekomendasi dari Pemerintah Daerah/Kepala Dinas yang
menangani Sektor Industri.
4. Apabila mengundurkan diri diwajibkan mengembalikan seluruh biaya
yang telah dikeluarkan.
5. Mempunyai minat yang kuat pada salah satu program studi yang
ditawarkan dan mempunyai bakat wirausaha.
6. Orang tua dari Siswa yang dicalonkan tergolong tidak mampu

B. PERSYARATAN ADMINISTRASI

1. Masing-masing calon pelamar mengisi formulir pendaftaran

C. PELAKSANAAN PENDIDIKAN
1. Lama Pendidikan
Program Pendidikan bagi Calon Tenaga Penyuluh Lapangan (TPL) IKM setara
Program D-3 dapat ditempuh selama 3 (tiga) tahun (6 semester) sebanyak
110 – 120 sks.
2. Beasiswa Yang diberikan
Biaya Pendidikan yang ditanggung meliputi antara lain :
- Bantuan Transport dari daerah yang bersangkutan ke Unit Pendidikan
dilingkungan Departemen Perindustrian Pulang Pergi
- Bantuan Biaya Hidup
- Biaya Kuliah/Praktek dan
- Bantuan Buku

D. PASCA PENDIDIKAN

Setelah yang bersangkutan lulus Program D-3 Tenaga Penyuluh Lapangan
(TPL) IKM, akan ditempatkan sebagai Tenaga Penyuluh Lapangan (TPL) IKM
di Propinsi/ Kabupaten/Kota masing-masing dengan Sistem Kontrak selama
2 (dua) tahun yang dilakukan oleh Direktorat Jenderal Industri Kecil
dan Menengah (Ditjen IKM) dengan yang bersangkutan dan diketahui oleh
Pemerintah Daerah/Kepala Dinas yang menangani Sektor Industri
setempat. Selama kontrak (2 tahun) segala biaya operasional
(Honorarium dan biaya operasional lainnya) bagi Tenaga Penyuluh
Lapangan (TPL) IKM menjadi tanggung jawab Ditjen IKM Departemen
Perindustrian.

Setelah selesai kontrak diharapkan yang bersangkutan dapat mandiri
sebagai wirausaha atau sebagai tenaga konsultan IKM di daerah yang
bersangkutan dan tidak lagi menjadi tanggungan Departemen Perindustrian.

Berkas Lamaran/Pendaftaran Program Beasiswa Calon Tenaga Penyuluh
Lapangan (TPL) IKM dapat dikirimkan secara kolektif/perorangan
disertai Surat Pengantar dari Kepala Sekolah/Pemerintah Daerah/Dinas
yang menangani Sektor Industri setempat kepada Biro Kepegawaian
Departemen Perindustrian R.I. Jl. Jenderal Gatot Subroto Kav. 52-53
Lt. 8 Jakarta Selatan, paling lambat tanggal 30 Mei 2008 (Cap Pos).

Hasil seleksi akan diumumkan bulan Juli 2008 dan akan dikirim ke

lulus harus melakukan pendaftaran ulang di Unit Pendidikan yang ditunjuk.

Economics. The University and the city offer a unique environment for

Scholarships.A maximum of 20 students will be admitted. The 10 most
qualified candidates will be awarded a four-year scholarship of about
€10,500 ($16,500) per year, after tax, for a total of about $42,000

The Graduate Program. The goal of the program is to train professional

The University of Birmingham`s MSc in Mathematical Finance teaches technically trained graduates - including in Mathematics, Science and Engineering – to apply their quantitative skills to financial analysis. Successful completion of the MSc will qualify students to work in quantitative analysis in City of London

Recent advances in theoretical finance and computing power have moved quantitative analysis from the margins of the financial world to its core. Rigorous quantitative analysis is now involved in everything from the design and pricing of individual assets to the optimisation of whole portfolios. Birmingham’s MSc in Mathematical Finance gives highly motivated, high performing students an opportunity to work in this area. It is taught by two top ranked institutions - its School of Mathematics and its Department of Economics. Students take core courses in financial econometrics, mathematical finance and computational methods. Optional modules allow them to hone further their technical skills (e.g. further mathematical finance) or to broaden their economic understanding (e.g. macroeconomics).

The MSc accepts students on the basis of quality rather than quantity. In 2007-08, only one in six applicants were offered places. Thanks to a generous private gift from Andrew Fisher (Birmingham economics 1982; CEO Towry Law), six Fisher Scholarships covering full tuition fees are available. Applicants with first class degrees are automatically considered for Fisher Scholarships as well as internal scholarships offered by the Economics Department, covering from a quarter to full tuition fees. The time required to graduate is approximately 6 semesters. However, the effective duration is also dependent upon each student`s capacity. Note also that the time required for the compulsory Italian course, which will begin in early September, before classes start, is not considered in the estimated duration of the program. Please note that scholarship recipients must attend their course for its entire length (3 years – 180 credits).

Students who have already attended other university courses can ask for a credit transfer up to a maximum of 10 credits per year (30 credits in total). Please note that credits achieved in preparatory courses or in the first year/second year in systems where preuniversity education lasts 10/11 years can not be taken into account.

Scholarships

Selection criteria
Applicants will be selected based on their previous academic career and on their Curriculum Vitae.

Amount of the scholarship
The gross amount of the Verrès Campus scholarship is 10.000 Euro per year (30.000 Euro for the complete period). The exact net sum is dependent upon the individual tax conditions of each student, which can be verified only upon the arrival of the student. The amount of the scholarship will not be increased in case the student will need more time to graduate than indicated. The allocation of the scholarship is dependent upon the submission, within 10 days from the arrival in Italy of the student, of the original documentation, which must correspond with the documentation attached to the online form (see the "Selection outcomes" section below).

Payment of the scholarship occurs periodically. The first instalment is dependent upon the possession of the relevant documentation (residence permit, Italian fiscal code, and bank account in the name of the scholarship recipient), all obtainable upon arrival in Italy; for this reason, the first instalment is not paid at the moment of arrival at the Politecnico di Torino, but in the course of the following month.

Requirements to maintain the scholarship Given that it is not possible to combine the benefits received from more than one scholarship, students who are assigned another study grant while receiving the Verrès Campus scholarship must promptly notify the Politecnico di Torino. Payment of the scholarship will be suspended if the academic performance of the recipient does not meet a satisfactory level.

The MRC Centre for Genomics and Global Health is developing a unique PhD programme that will provide interdisciplinary training in statistical genetics, bioinformatics and population genetics, and the opportunity to apply these skills to cutting edge research on major diseases of the developing world.

Four studentships are available to start in October 2008. They will be based at Oxford University but students will be encouraged to develop collaborative research projects at the Centre's partner institutions at the MRC Laboratories in The Gambia, the KEMRI - Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya, the Wellcome Trust Programme in South-east Asia and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the UK. Each studentship covers full course fees and research costs, together with an annual stipend (currently £12,600 per annum).

The funding is for 4 years. The first year of the programme will be tailored to the individual's background and will involve taught courses linked to the new Oxford doctoral training programme in Genomic Medicine. During the first year students will be able to develop their research focus by working alongside the Centre's Informatics Fellows in The Gambia, Kenya, Viet Nam or Thailand.

After completing the first year's training, students will undertake a research project linked to one or more of the Centre's partner institutions. They will typically have two supervisors, at Oxford University and at the partner institution. The aim is to encourage students to work on multi-centre collaborative projects, and to use the PhD training programme to build capacity across a wider research network.

This joint project is led by the International Food Policy Research
Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC, USA, and two collaborating divisions

conduct several months of empirical research in Guatemala, as one out
of
four analyzed countries (India, Uganda, Kyrgyzstan, Guatemala), and

Ph.D. student will spend 4 months at the Workshop in Political Theory
and Policy Analysis, Indiana University, USA, during Fall Semester
2008,
as part of her/his project commitment. The main research question will
be whether particular rural services, for example agricultural
extension, marketing and processing, health care, education, drinking
water and irrigation or mobility, can improve the livelihoods of the
rural poor by reinforcing their property rights and access to

agricultural economics, political sciences, general economics or

The Centre for the History of Medicine and Disease (CHMD) invites
applications for a one-year Masters studentship in the History of

The studentship is part of the Taught Masters Programme in History and
Philosophy of Science and Medicine (HPSM) of Durham University's
Department of Philosophy, the CHMD, and the School of Medicine & Health.
It is placed within the framework of the Northern Centre for the History
of Medicine, a partnership between the universities of Durham and
Newcastle, and funded from a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award which had
been awarded to the Northern Centre. It will be available as of October
2008.

The Masters studentship cover fees at home/EU level plus c. �16,000
maintenance. The successful applicant will register for the HPSM
programme offered by the Department of Philosophy and the School of
Medicine & Health as of October 2008.

This one-year (two years part-time) programme combines historical and
philosophical approaches to medicine and science. In particular, it
provides students with a deeper understanding of historical, cultural
and philosophical issues in science and medicine from Antiquity up to
the present day. One of its primary aims is to show students how the
humanities are relevant to a deeper understanding of past and present
medical and scientific issues. The breadth of the course's methods
ranges from socio-cultural models to analytical approaches. The

into further PhD study or act as a stand alone MA; and candidates who

LATAR BELAKANG

UU Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 tentang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional, dan Permen Nomor 42 Tahun 2007 tentang Sertifikasi Dosen, mewajibkan dosen harus memiliki strata pendidikan minimal satu tingkat lebih tinggi dari para mahasiswa yang diajarnya. Hal ini disebabkan karena Dosen merupakan SDM perguruan tinggi yang memiliki peran yang sangat sentral dan strategis dalam seluruh aktivitas di perguruan tinggi. Tinggi-rendahnya kualitas dosen akan sangat menentukan tinggi-rendahnya kualitas suatu perguruan tinggi.

Untuk memberikan kesempatan studi lanjut, Pemerintah menyediakan dana BPPS bagi dosen untuk melanjutkan studinya di program Pascasarjana Dalam Negeri. Namun, untuk lebih meningkatkan kualitas dosen berskala internasional, mulai tahun 2008, Direktorat Ketenagaan Ditjen Dikti sebagai unit yang mempunyai tugas dalam pembinaan, pelatihan dan pengembangan tenaga akademik, menyediakan beasiswa untuk studi lanjut S-2 dan S-3 di luar negeri.

DESKRIPSI

Program beasiswa S2/S3 Luar Negeri yang disediakan oleh Ditjen Dikti ini :
1. Merupakan beasiswa yang berasal dari APBN.
2. Bersifat terbuka untuk semua dosen tetap Perguruan Tinggi, baik PTN maupun PTS di Indonesia.
3. Lama pemberian beasiswa adalah maksimum 3 tahun untuk program S-3 dan 2 tahun untuk program S-2.
4. Komponen biaya yang dapat diberikan meliputi:
- uang kuliah (tuition fee);
- biaya hidup untuk penerima beasiswa (tidak termasuk keluarganya) ;
- tiket pesawat pergi-pulang dari dan ke bandara internasional terakhir;
- asuransi kesehatan;
- biaya buku;
- biaya kedatangan di negara lain (settling allowance);
- biaya persiapan keberangkatan (visa, cek kesehatan, paspor, fiskal);
- biaya kelebihan bagasi kepulangan;
- biaya program khusus (seminar);
- biaya penelitian atau penulisan tugas akhir;
- biaya pendaftaran ke universitas.
5. Besaran beasiswa disesuaikan dengan kondisi di negara-negara tujuan.
6. Pengalokasian beasiswa “Program Beasiswa Pascasarjana Luar Negeri” (PBPLN) Ditjen Dikti dilakukan melalui Pimpinan Perguruan Tinggi (Rektor untuk PTN, dan Pimpinan Kopertis untuk PTS) dari masing-masing calon penerima beasiswa. Untuk itu, Pimpinan PT/Kopertis menyelenggarakan kontrak kerja dengan Dirjen Dikti.
7. Jika sebagian program kegiatan studi penerima beasiswa dilakukan di Indonesia (misalnya dalam pelaksanaan penelitian), maka besaran biaya hidup selama di Indonesia akan dibayarkan menggunakan standard BPPS.
8. Untuk mempermudah proses administrasi, peserta dianjurkan untuk memulai program studi pada Semester yang dimulai pada bulan September.

PERSYARATAN CALON

Syarat melamar beasiswa:
1. Sudah memperoleh Letter of Acceptance yang masih berlaku dari Institusi dan/atau calon pembimbing dari Perguruan Tinggi luar negeri yang berkualitas (diutamakan dari Perguruan Tinggi Negara maju).
2. Mengisi Form A
3. Usia ketika melamar maksimum 50 tahun.
4. Melampirkan copy ijazah dan transkrip (IPK) S1/S2 yang telah dilegalisasi.
5. Melampirkan copy sertifikat bukti kemampuan Bahasa Inggris (TOEFL institusional 500, IELTS 6,0) atau bahasa asing lainnya sesuai dengan ketentuan dari perguruan tinggi tujuan masing-masing (yang masih berlaku).
6. Untuk pelamar beasiswa S3 melampirkan Usulan Penelitian yang telah disetujui oleh (atau paling tidak sudah dikomunikasikan dengan) calon Pembimbing di PT Luar Negeri.

The Vision & Robotics Research Group (VIROB) is the expertise centre -at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Malaysia - for machine vision technology. VIROB possesses comprehensive knowledge in the area of system integration and technology development and has product- and process knowledge to implement innovations together with industries. In addition, it has good networking with universities, knowledge organizations and engineering companies within and outside Malaysia. VIROB therefore plays a pivoting role in the coordination of supply and demand of such knowledge and technology. Our research areas range from fundamental computer vision methodologies to machine vision applications.

PhD details
The candidate will be required to carry out international level research in image analysis, features extraction and classification. This will involve developing a novel and robust technique for automated vision recognition for data collection in precision farming technology. The candidate would be expected to have a higher honours degree in electrical or computer science discipline. Prior computer vision experience, programming in MATLAB & C would be advantageous.

This research will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohd Marzuki Mustafa and Prof. Dr. Aini Hussain.

The studentship will be funded for up to 3 years (subject to satisfactory progresssion) at a level of RM1,800/month. University fee

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) - Human Oöcytes (ova) for Stem Cell Research: Donation and Regulation in Australia

This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage-Projects grant and will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD. The objective of the research project is to explore the bioethics of research oöcyte donation for Australian stem cell research. Research will involve policy analysis, interviews with oöcyte donors, clinical and scientific staff and other stakeholders as well as bioethically informed social analysis of the issue. The aim of the project is both to produce scholarly research and to develop a socially sustainable, bioethically sound approach to somatic cell nuclear transfer research in Australia. The successful applicant will be supervised by A/Professor Catherine Waldby, International Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy and A/Professor Ian Kerridge, director of the Centre for Values, Ethics and Law in Medicine (VELIM), Sydney University.

Applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in social science, gender studies, science studies or bioethics and have some experience with empirical qualitative research. Experience with research in clinical settings and knowledge of stem cell research would be an advantage. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens. The scholarship stipend is $26, 140 p.a. in 2008 (tax exempt), and the position will begin in July 2008.

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships are a component of the Australian Leadership Awards, a regional program under the Australian Scholarships initiative. Australian Leadership Awards aim to develop leadership, build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific.

They are intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. The ALA program comprises of Scholarships and Fellowships.

ALA Scholarships are academically elite awards offered to high achievers from the Asia-Pacific region each year to undertake postgraduate study (Masters or Doctorate) and a Leadership Development Program in Australia.

Selection for ALA Scholarships is highly competitive, based on leadership qualities and on academic excellence.

ALA Scholarships are an investment in the future of the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, ALA scholars are required to return to their home country or the region for two years after they have completed their studies.

General description of the Master/PhD. programme: The candidate is
expected to work full time (8h a day) during the four years to
obtain his/her PhD. Depending on the diplomas owned by the
candidate, he/she will have to follow a few courses equivalent to 60
ECTS from a Research Master in Electronic Engineering (in this case
the students will obtain the title of Master in Electronics
Engineering) before starting his/her research activities, which
should lead to his/her thesis dissertation at the end of the fourth
year. During the last two years, the candidate will be additionally
funded to develop part of his research work at another European
research institution for a duration of at least three months, so
he/she can obtain a European PhD. certificate.

Profile of the candidate: The optimal profile for the position would
be a recent graduate in electronic engineering or chemistry or
physics (chemistry, chemical engineering, analytical chemistry,
biochemical engineering, electronic engineering, physics, etc.)
willing to obtain his/her European Ph.D. degree in four years. The
candidate should be able to economically sustain him/herself with
the grant with no additional funding (something easy to do in Spain
with such a grant). Applicants are expected to work in the following
area: Development of Microsystems for chemical analysis (pre-
concentrator systems, micro and nano gas sensors). Good level of
English is required and good Spanish level would be appreciated too.

Job description: Optimization of electronic and optoelectronic properties by the control and specific manipulation of structure and growth is one of the central topics of modern semiconductor nanostructure research. Work shall be aimed at observing the growth directly, i.e. in situ and in real time, and at understanding and manipulating the relevant processes. Job description: Modern synchrotron sources are characterized by a high degree of brilliance and spatial coherence of their X-radiation. Radiographic and computer tomography X-ray imaging methods using synchrotron radiation allow for the imaging of the inner microstructure of materials, biological tissues, and micro- and nanosystems with highest spatial resolution.

Work shall be aimed at conceiving a method for the non-destructive three-dimensional imaging of inner micro- and nanostructures in flat, laterally extended samples without any sample preparation being needed.

For this purpose, the so-called nanolaminography shall be developed based on an optimum use of the source and coherence properties of synchrotron radiation sources of the third generation with highest spatial (up to 50 nm) and temporal (range of minutes) resolution.

In contrast to CT, imaging may be carried out in a non-destructive manner not only for samples within the field of view of X-ray cameras, but also for flat objects and components, the inner three-dimensional structures of which extend beyond the field of view of cameras or have any lateral extension.

Job description: Imaging radiographic and computer-tomographi c X-ray methods based on synchrotron radiation allow for the imaging of the internal microstructure of materials, biological tissues, and components.

Modern synchrotron sources are characterized by a high degree of spatial coherence of their X-radiation.

Work is aimed at specifically using these coherence properties for the development of new imaging mechanisms of high spatial resolution and high contrast. These mechanisms are applied in real-time radiography and holographic computer tomography to determine statistic properties of microporous materials and their temporal development. Your tasks will include:

• The setup and execution of experiments at ANKA and the ESRF

Mahasiswa S3: Identification of Deformation Mechanisms in Nanocrystalline Metals by Synchrotron X-radiation

Job description: Apart from the movement of complete dislocations, processes like the sliding of partial dislocations with the formation of stacking defects and the slip of grain boundaries, and grain rotation contribute to the plastic deformation of nanocrystalline alloys. Due to mechanical loading, the microstructure changes in terms of e.g. dislocation and stacking defect density.

The dissertation shall be aimed at identifying deformation mechanisms in nanocrystalline metals by synchrotron X-radiation. For this purpose, in-situ experiments shall be carried out. By using in-situ diffraction methods in a synchrotron beamline, the occurrence of defects during deformation shall be determined quantitatively and, thus, the contribution of different mechanisms to plastic deformation shall be characterized.

For this purpose, the problem of X-ray scattering at these alloys shall be modeled theoretically and the evaluation methods shall be optimized and validated.

Health Psychology in Practice: Understanding behavioural intervention
processes for improving patient self-care in chronic illness.

As part of our commitment to research excellence, applications are invited
from suitably qualified graduates for a full-time PhD studentship in the
Peninsula Medical School's Institute of Health and Social Care Research,
working in the Institute's Primary Care Research Group. The studentship will
cover a tax-exempt stipend of £12,300 per annum and tuition fees at the home
rate for a 3-year period. Candidates from countries outside the European
Union will be liable for the difference between 'home student fees' and
'foreign student fees'.

This project aims to improve our understanding of the psychological
processes which are important in behavioural interventions for improving
patient self-care of chronic illnesses. The consequences of poor self-care
in people with chronic illnesses (e.g. medication use, lifestyle) are a
major source of NHS cost and developing NHS systems to improve the support
of patient self-care is central to current government policy. At the same
time, the science of self-care intervention development and evaluation is a
rapidly developing area in behavioural medicine, but one which still needs
strengthening with empirical evidence and methodological development
(Hardeman W et al. Health Educ Res 2005;20:676- 87. Michie S et al. Quality
and Safety in Health Care 2005;14:26-33) . The proposed studentship will be
conducted initially in the context of the piloting and trial evaluation of
an intervention for promoting better asthma self-care. This is part of an
ongoing programme of work developed by Dr Colin Greaves. The studentship
will focus initially on addressing the following objectives:

1. Identifying suitable process measures to assess the
inter-relationship between variables in a theoretical model of self-care
behaviour modification in an asthma self-care intervention.
2. Piloting the process measures framework alongside the intervention
pilot (or in a separate study).
3. Conducting qualitative research to elicit patient and practitioner
experiences of using the intervention and to gain further insights into the
processes involved.
4. Applying the process measures framework and qualitative feedback in
the planning of larger studies, including a randomised controlled trial
evaluation of the asthma self-care intervention.

The post will allow the student to develop a range of qualitative and
quantitative research skills in a growth area of behavioural science and to
gain experience in an applied research setting. This would be particularly
relevant for candidates considering a career in behavioural science
/behavioural medicine research. The student will be based in the Primary
Care Research Group. Supervision will be provided jointly by Dr Colin
Greaves (Health Psychologist and Senior Research Fellow) and Professor John
Campbell (Professor of Primary Care and General Practice) and the work will

ceCube is a gigaton detector for cosmic neutrinos under construction at the geographical South Pole. After completion of the full detector, IceCube will be nearly two orders of magnitude more sensitive then current high energy neutrino detectors. The IceCube group at the Humboldt-University has openings for two PhD positions. Possible topics are connected to the research interests of the group.

1) Search for electron neutrinos and tau neutrinos with IceCube: The group is involved in the development of new methods for reconstruction and simulation of electron neutrinos and tau neutrinos. We study high-energy atmospheric neutrinos with the aim to identify a contribution due to a flux of astrophysical neutrinos.

2) Search for a neutrino signal from Supernova and Gamma-Ray Bursts: Supernovae and Gamma-Ray Bursts could be significant sources of high-energy neutrinos. Besides a search for such neutrinos we are implementing automated follow-up observations using optical telescopes around the world to identify the associated
Supernovae or Gamma-Ray Bursts.

The appointment can begin as early as March 15th, 2007 and has a term of three years. There is the possibility for an extended stay at a collaborating institution (for example the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab). Candidates should hold a qualifying degree in physics. A specialization in elementary particle physics or astrophysics as well as software skills (C++, Linux) would be a benefit.

PhD Studentship
Design of Nanoporous Adsorbents for the Capture of Carbon Dioxide
Institute for Materials and Processes

Funding is available for a PhD studentship in Chemical Engineering, in
the Institute for Materials and Processes at the University of
Edinburgh. This studentship is part of an EU project, Advanced
Separation and Storage of Carbon Dioxide, which is aimed at developing
new materials for the control of carbon dioxide emissions. The project
involves nine industrial and academic partners in six EU states - the
UK, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Slovakia and Spain.

The student will work on the molecular simulation of adsorption in
nanoporous adsorbents, with the aim of identifying optimal materials
for the adsorption of carbon dioxide. Some experimental work will also
be carried out, at Edinburgh and at partner institutions.

Candidates should have a first class degree, or equivalent, in
chemical engineering.

This studentship is funded as a research associate post, starting at
£22,332 per year. The Home/EU fee for a PhD student is currently
£3,160 per year, and the fee for a student not from an EU member state
is £11,750 per year. The fee must be paid by the student. The
studentship is available from 1 March 2007.

The responsibility of epidemiologists to:

mendapat beasiswa menjadi Master (2 tahun) atau PhD student (3-4
tahun) pada School of
Public Health - UCLA untuk mulai tahun 2007 ini.
Lulusan Epidemiologi UCLA sangat terkenal dalam kemampuan metodologi
dan sangat
kuat dalam kuantititatif serta jaringan lulusan yang luas di dunia
terutama Asia.

Bila terpilih anda mendapat beasiswa penuh (biaya perjalanan ke LA,
biaya hidup, biaya sekolah, notebook, biaya pembelian buku, dan
asuransi kesehatan, serta biaya penelitian).
